Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan (1916 - 2004) was a teacher of meditation and the best known Sufi master to teach in the West. He described the goal of the spiritual path as “Making God a reality by awakening the God within.” His mission was to spread the teachings which his father, Hazrat Inayat Khan, brought from India, and the timeless contributions of the ancient Sufi mystics to which he incorporated some of the rich mystical traditions of other religious traditions as well as the science and sacred music of the West. 

Legacy's purpose is to honor Pir Vilayat, his life, his teachings, his being. The audio recordings are an historical record of Pir Vilayat's teachings. As he presented over time, his teachings evolved and they continue to evolve as our contemporary Pirs present their own teachings on many of these same topics.

We also would like to make special mention honoring Mikhail Horowitz, the inspiration and driving force behind the Pir Vilayat Legacy project. Over many decades Mikhail, in devoted loving service to the Order and Pir Villayat, has recorded and collected the vast treasury of Pir Vilayat’s teaching that this site is now presenting to the world. We owe him our deep gratitude for his many years of service to Pir Vilayat and the awakening of humanity to the divinity of mankind.
